My blog on Marilyn and Monty’s Wedding. Recently, I was contacted by a fellow photographer inquiring if I had time to do a simple wedding amidst the Covid 19 pandemic. His schedule would not allow him to do the session, so he asked if I could cover it. I made contact with the wedding party, Marilyn and Monty to see what their needs were. Marilyn told me that they were planning a huge wedding with over 150 guests, but since the restrictions of gatherings to no more than 10 persons was in place in Kansas, she wanted a photographer to capture their simple ceremony at a local Catholic church here in southwest Kansas.
The wedding would be a simple, yet elegant one with only the bride and groom, a maid of honor, best man, ring bearer, priest and myself. Of course, this was the first time I was asked to shoot a wedding on April Fool’s Day. I met the wedding party at the church and began to capture images of incidental shots such as the bouquet and rings, along with the unity candle. These intimate images start to tell the story of the couple as they begin their new journey together.
As I stated, the ceremony was simple, but also added in was some traditional themes. One of the themes was the Las Arras Matrimoniales (Marriage Unity Coins) to which the priest would bless the coins and then the bride and groom would exchange the coins with each other to symbolize the couple’s commitment to sharing their life together for richer and for poorer. Another traditional theme that Marilyn and Monty chose was the Lazo Ceremony where a rope symbolizing unity and infinity is placed around the necks of the bride and groom.
After the exchange of the rings and the blessings from the priest, the ceremony ended with the bond of a traditional kiss. Images of the new husband and wife as well as the bridal party were captured. Marilyn and Monty’s Wedding party then proceeded to the home of couple for a brief cake cutting ceremony. Marilyn and Monty were very thankful for my services due to all of the restrictions in place as well as being able to capture their special day on short notice. All requirements for Covid 19 were met including social distancing during and after the ceremony.
Our sincere thank you to Marilyn and Monty for choosing us to be their wedding photographers. We wish you many year of happiness. For more information about our services, please contact us through our website, email, or call 620-640-5226
